New Playground

Introducing a New Sensory-Friendly Playground!

Thanks to the incredible generosity of our families, staff, community partners and supporters, Bunche Montessori Early Childhood Center has a brand-new, sensory-friendly playground designed specifically for our Montessori learners.

Why a New Playground?

Our current playground served generations of students, but it was originally built for older children and no longer meets the needs of today’s early learners. It also lacks the sensory-supportive features that help children with autism and sensory processing differences thrive.

That’s why we’re thrilled to bring in a modern, inclusive space designed just for young children, the first major playground upgrade in more than two decades.

The older equipment will stay, as it serves our older learners. However, our new playground is usable for all ages here at Bunche!

What's Coming: Key Features

The new playground is designed with early childhood development and sensory inclusion. Highlights include:

Nucleus Play Structure (Ages 2-5)
  • Balance Beam & Pathway Links: Builds balance, coordination and body awareness
  • Niche Capsule Pod: A cozy, gently swaying space perfect for calming and sensory regulation
  • Climbing and sliding elements: Sized for young learners
Inclusive Spinners
  • NIDO Spinner: Low-entry, pod-like design great for soothing overstimulation
  • VOLTA Spinner: Fully accessible and ideal for cooperative play and sensory integration
Designed for Safety & Exploration
  • Early-childhood-specific equipment
  • Smooth surfacing and age-appropriate heights
  • Features intentionally selected to support motor, sensory, social and imaginative play

A Playground for the Whole Community

Our new playground will be open to families after school hours and on weekends. This upgrade provides a safe, accessible and free play space for neighborhood children year-round.

Thank You, Supporters!

This project would not be possible without the parents, caregivers, staff, community donors, and partners who believed in this vision. Your enthusiasm and generosity have created something truly meaningful for our school and neighborhood.
