AMS Accreditation logo

In 2003, Bunche Montessori became the first public school in the United States to be American Montessori Society (AMS) Accredited. This is the highest possible level of recognition and distinction granted by the AMS. Bunche's accreditation has been renewed twice within the last two decades, displaying our staff's commitment to constantly improving our education and professional development.

What is AMS School Accreditation?

AMS Accreditation is a voluntary, rigorous process that takes 18 months to two years to complete. Schools undergoing this process assess their strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring they implement best practices in Montessori education. This accreditation, available to eligible schools, demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement and validates the delivery of a high-quality educational program. Recognized as the gold standard in Montessori education, AMS Accreditation represents excellence in the field.

As the first AMS Accredited public school in the United States, we take pride in serving as a model for public Montessori education. As of 2024, there are 207 AMS Accredited Montessori schools nationwide.

AMS Accreditation Benefits

Feeder Pattern: Connection, Collaboration, Community

Bunche Montessori is a Magnet School. To attend this school, students must apply through the School Choice Lottery. The process is different from the neighborhood schools within FWCS, which assign students based on their residential addresses. Once a student is admitted to Bunche, they have a guaranteed graduation pathway beginning at Montessori, all the way up to high school graduation through the New Tech Network education model.

Bunche → Towles Intermediate School → Wayne New Tech Academy

Bunche and Towles see themselves as one big Montessori family, working together to create a strong community. They share parent education events like the Montessori New Parent coffee hour, math night and the annual continent study focus. The students get to collaborate too—Towles Choir performs at Bunche every December, and Bunche Kindergarteners visit Towles throughout the year to explore the “big” school, work on projects and spend a transition day with their future 6-9 classrooms.

New Tech Academy also joins the fun! Each October, their Geocad class creates 3D puzzles for the Kindergartners, showing them how to use the puzzles before the kids take them home. Photography students from New Tech even work on creative projects with the little ones. The Bunche Spring Music Program is held at Wayne High School, where parents are encouraged to tour New Tech before the performance. It’s all about connection, collaboration and community!
